This is Tanzania’s third principal National Park though not oftenly toured; it is a real wilderness giving the few courageous souls who visit it an exciting taste of Africa. It occupies an area of 4,471 sq km and is situated south west of Tanzania, east of Lake Tanganyika.
Katavi is famous for its Miombo Woodland and is habitat to roan, zebra, elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and antelopes.
The waterways are dwelling places to a number of hippos and crocodiles. Lakes Chala and Katavi are wealthy in bird life with beyond 400 species registered.
Katavi is easy to get to by road, but a good number of tourists fly in by private charter aircraft. A small, classic tented camp gives the only appropriate guest lodging in the Park.
