Olduvai Gorge

Highlights:
Wild Sisal
Fossils
This park is situated within the Ngorongoro conservation area a small journey from the major road linking Serengeti and Ngorongoro. This gorge acquires its name from Oldupai which is the Maasai word for the kind of wild sisal that is found in the gorge. It was in this actual park that Dr. Leakey started his exploration for human leftovers in 1931.
He was accompanied by his wife Mary; Dr. Louis Leakey revealed the remnants of Homo habilis. Several fossils have been found in this park plus those of giant horned sheep summing up Olduvai Gorge as the “Cradle of Mankind”.
