This royal park was set up in 1952; it is situated in the Great Western Rift Valley. The park occupies an area of 1978 km² and provides a spectacular site on the rift valley floor amid lakes George and Edward.
Lake George is linked to Lake Edward by the 32 km long Kazinga channel, which slightly divides the park northern and southern sectors. To the north, Queen Elizabeth National Park is neighbored by Kibale National Park and with Kyambura Wildlife reserve to the north east. Kyambura was conserved as an illegal hunting spot and then raised to the position of Game reserve in 1965.
This parks wildlife at on time was affected by from heavy poaching, but the latest conservation efforts have turned out much of the game as it is now taken as part of the best areas on the continent to view high concentrations of hippo. More animals spotted in this park are chimpanzees, olive baboons, and tree climbing lions, giant forest hog, elephant, buffalo, Uganda kob and a number of antelope. The park also has a number of an extraordinary 612 species of birds turning it out to be it a birders paradise.
The best moment of the year to take a tour to this park is just following the rains, between October and November and March and April when greatest concentrations of animals roam move around the whole area. On the other hand, it is also okay if you take a trip in any of the remaining months.

Access:
By Road: Queen Elizabeth National Park is about 460 km from Kampala and can quickly be reached by road either via Fort Portal or Mbarara.

By Air:  Another option may be a Chartered planes that can be booked for your flight to Mweya Airstrip or to Kasese Airfield / Ishasha Airstrip and afterwards by road to Mweya.

Accommodation:
Accommodation is of affordable amounts from budget to up market services. Camping is existing in the Mweya peninsula plus more campsites near Kazinga Channel.
Some suggested lodges and camps are made up of Ishasha Wilderness Camp, Jacana Safari Lodge and Mweya Safari Lodge.
