Highlights:
1. Hiking
2. Birding
3. Volcanic peaks
4. Be in Uganda Rwanda and Rwanda all at the same time
5. Mountain Gorillas – Nyakagezi group
This wonderful park is Uganda’s smallest park, however perhaps the most picturesque. It is situated on the South western tip of the country on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and occupies an area of about 34 sq kms. It covers up the Uganda side of the three Bufumbira Volcanic Mountains of Mgahinga (3400m), Muhavura (4127m) and Sabinyo (3645m) on the boundary with Rwanda and the democratic Republic of Congo.
The National Park is famous for its Mountain Gorilla numbers and was declared a Gorilla sanctuary in 1930, the boundary of which followed about the 2450 m contour and the Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) borders. In 1964, the northern boundary was turned out into a lower altitude (2280m) penetrating into highly encroached zones and conserved as a Game reserve which makes up its current area of approximately 47.5km². The game reserve was conserved to its current position of a National Park in 1992.
Three species of primates are famously seen in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and these are; The Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla beringei), the Golden Monkey (Cercopithecus mitis kandti) and Black and White Colobus (Colobus guereza). Other animals of interest include Buffaloes (Syncerus caffer), Giant Forest Hogs (Hylocchoerus meinertzhageni), Golden Cats (Felis aurata), Elephants (loxodanta Africana) and part of the like bird species the globally threatened Grauer’s Rush Warbler.
Hiking:
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park provides three extinct volcanoes for physically fit hikers even if no special mountain gear is needed.
The three volcanoes are: Sabinyo, Mt. Gahinga and Mt. Muhavura.
Sabinyo (3669m) – “Old man’s teeth”.
When you arrive at the top, you will stand at a point in Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the same time. The hike is for about 8 hours round trip to envelop the 14 km stretch.

Mt. Gahinga (3474m) – “Small Pile of Stones”.
Search out for small piles of stones during you voyage to the park. The indigenous individuals refer to such a pile “Gahinga”. The hike is for about 6 hours round trip.
Mt. Muhavura (4127m) – “The Guide”.

This volcano is like the guide since it is spotted from al most every where in Kisoro. The climbing takes about 8 hours round trip to round up about the 12 km stretch.
Access:
By Road: Kisoro is approximately 520kms from Kampala through Kabale.
By Air: There is a provision for Chartered planes can be booked for your flight to Kisoro Airstrip from Entebbe and afterwards take the road to Mgahinga.
Accommodation:

Kisoro provides a big number range of accommodation facilities starting from basic campsites to luxurious hotels.
Possible hotels and lodges are: Traveler’s Rest Hotel, Mgahinga Safari Lodge and Mt. Gahinga Rest Camp.

Rwenzori Mountains were affirmed a Forest Reserve in 1941. This forest reserve was acknowledged as the biggest catchment area where several streams originate and supply water to the areas around in addition to maintaining the pressure of water to lakes Edward, George and Albert. Rwenzori Forest reserve was conserved as a national park in 1991 and announced a world heritage place in 1995. The Rwenzori Mountains have a range occupying an area of 996 sq kms, usually known as the legendary “Mountains of the Moon” because of its mist-shrouded, snow-capped peaks that stretch out 4° north of the Equator.

Those obsessed by hiking plus those interested in adventure seeking, through out the world keep on flocking East Africa because of the exhilarating mountaineering expeditions to Mt. Kenya, Mt. Rwenzori, Mt. Kilimanjaro and other smaller Mountains.

It is a mountain range that occupies 996km² made following a substantial up lift in the earths crust. The highest peak stands up to 5109 metres above sea level with the range stretching about 120 km north / south and 48 km east / west. With 6 snow capped mountains Margherita Peak is the highest.
• Rwenzori Climbing Tour – 11 days
• Rwenzori Short Hike – 8 days
A trip to the Rwenzori Mountain is an exhilarating and rewarding experience but one which must be planned. The hike on the Rwenzori, the third mountain range (Highest non Volcanic) in Africa (Margherita Peak, 5109 metres) is an exclusive occurrence for whoever participates in mountaineering.

In a short period, you will go through five several vegetation zones, succeeding up to an altitude of up to 4,372 metres.
Two exhilarating Programmes can be prepared for both the experienced and new climbers.

The renowned “Central Circuit” trails taking you from hut to hut, as you see the major Rwenzori Peaks. The level of complexity of the circuit is quite low; all the same each person can embark on this breathtaking and stimulating experience. The opportunity is open for whoever desires to ascend the peaks, which is made up of an additional room of one day per peak.
The “Rwenzori Short Hike”, is a quicker trial to fulfill any quest, also the families with children, so that each could take pleasure in the beauty of the Rwenzori with little efforts.

Both (Central Circuit and Rwenzori Short Hike) could be added up with the tour to the main parks and attractions of Uganda like Queen Elizabeth, Kibale Forest and Bwindi Forest (subject to gorilla permit availability at the time of booking).
